Laura Wall
From involvement in Abington Junior High School Builder's Club to three years of intense and dedicated involvement in Abington Senior High School Key Club, Laura has woven community service into the fabric of her life and has shown passion and enthusism for 'giving back' that inspires her fellow students to do the same.
As President of the Key Club during her senior year, Laura has developed excellent leadership skills, which has demonstrated in her planning, coordinating and facilitating many of the Club's activities, as well as over-seeing all the projects the Club takes on. As Debra Jack, the Key Club Advisor, says of Laura, "She is a self-assured, dynamic, genial and humble young woman... She shows a powerful determination and dedication to community service and is zealous about the work of the Abington Senior High School Key Club."
Because Laura has such a positive attitude and engaging spirit, and sees the bright side of life, fellow students flock to her and want to be involved in her projects – she makes others feel welcome and important and makes the experience fun for everyone. She is generous, friendly, giving, and well-liked and respected by her peers and teachers. Laura is easy to be around and has a calm confidence that inspires others to step up and get involved in causes she is passionate about.
Besides using her leadership talents to guide the entire organization, Laura's legacy to Key Club has been through her personal involvement in the projects related to Laurel House, a shelter for abused women and their families. This project won the 2nd prize in the single service category in the Pennsylvania Key Club convention in the spring of 2009 – the outstanding success in this project was due to Laura's dedication, determination, energy, enthusiasm and empathy for those less fortunate than herself.
Being President of the Key Club is a huge undertaking by itself, but Lura also manages to participate in many other extra-curricular and volunteer activities, including being the student organizer of the Student Council Fall Blood Drive, and she serves on the Abington Community Taskforce Teen Council. As choreographer and student director for many school theatrical performances and for the Abington Y's Young People's Theater program, Laura has shown herself to be organized, level-headed, willing to pitch in with any chore and have a natural way of helping people to work together.
Having been accepted into Gwyneed Mercy College Nursing Program, Laura is determined to continue her community service during the next phase of her life. Teresa Cooper, her supervisor at the YMCA's Young People's Theater, says Laura possesses "a maturity and grace that many young adults only dream of achieving."
