Abintgon has a wonderful parks system and recreational facilities, which include Ardsley Park, Ardsley Wildlife Sanctuary, Baederwood Park, Boy Scout Game Preserve, Conway Park, Crestmont Park, Edge Hill Woods, Elk Street Tot Lot, Ethel Jordan Memorial Park, Evergreen Manor Park, Fox Chase Manor Park, Karebrook Nature Area, Meadowbrook Bird Sanctuary, North Hills Park, Penbryn Park, Rockwell Park, Roslyn Park, Roychester Park, Rubicam Park, Scott Park, The Grove Property and Tyson Green. The facilities are described in detail at the Abington Parks and Rec web site.
Jackson Park was recently acquired and early plans are being made to create access with parking along Meadowbrook Road. This park ads to the Township's green space. In 2003, Montgomery County voters voiced their support for a new county Open Space Program by approving a $150 million program called Green Fields-Green Towns. This money is earmarked to natural and water resource areas offering towns and boroughs options for "re-greening" their communities, and preserving open space and farmland over the next ten years. Alverthorpe Park has a guard-house and to access the facility, you must bring photo identification that has your address in Abington Township. The park also allows residents to reserve various activities areas in advance. Those guests will be permitted into the park by the guard after you pay the required fees.
